Aims and scope:

Development studies have been increasingly important for Romania. Traditionally a recepient of development aid, since it joined the EU in 2007, this country has become a donor itself, and development co-operation has become part of its foreign policy. Sponsored by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Romania, five master's programmes were launched in June 2010 at five major Romanian universities, namely Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, the University of Bucharest, and West University of Timisoara. The initiative was part of a programme entitled Strengthening national institutional and educational capacity to implement official development assistance (ODA) projects and programs, which ran from January 2008 to June 2010. Among its objectives was the training of Romanian specialists in the field of international development, also through the creation of new master's degrees, who would fill up the national professional opportunities opened up by Romania's new status as a donor of official development aid.

This master's degree program deals with international aid from a multidisciplinary perspective that covers economic (business, trade and finance), social (education, health, the environment), and political issues (democracy, good governance). The programme, entirely taught in English, is aimed at graduates in business, politics and government, international relations and European studies, sociology, communication, theology, education, or any other field, who would like to work for national or international, public or private, organizations dealing with global development issues.
